Konkan Travel - Day 8

It was second last day of our journey. For a moment i couldn't believe that we managed to cover a long way journey :). We had to spend some time in morning to clean our bikes as it had got wet due to rain.

Morning after heavy rainfall last night
We were ready with lagguage loaded at around 8.00 am. We had target to reach Alibag at round 11.00 am. We took a last break at Kashid beach on the way for breakfast.

Morning at Kashid beach
After having a spicy omelet for breakfast, we left for Alibag and reached friend's home at expected time. We were happy to get a warm welcome at his home. His house is located on outskirts of Alibag on Alibag-Pen road. We off-loaded the lagguage from the bike. Had a brief chat with him about our so far journey with a tea break.

Alibag beach, Alibag fort and Kanderi-Underi fort were on our list for the day. Friend had suggested another two places to visit, Mandwa Port & a very old temple of Alibag called Kankeshwar. We left after sometime for the Kankeshwar temple first. The temple is well known and very old one. It has around 650 steps and distance of 5000 feet. Visiting the temple was a real exercise for us :).

Total number of steps 650.. :)

We were back at around 2.30 pm from temple. We had lunch on the way to khanderi-Underi and reached  port at around 3.00 pm. Boat service to the fort is not available in off-season, one need to arrange with some help of local fishermen. We were searching of some local transportation to reach the fort but again it was bad luck for us. We visited to a fisherman in the locality who does take in his personal boat. As high tide time was near we were suggested to avoid the visit.

In search of fisherman.
We left that place as there was no point waiting for nothing. Next we reached Mandwa Port. This port is one of the busiest and best mode of Transport for Mumbai people to reach Alibag :). It takes 55 mins to reach on the other side. You can enjoy this mode of transport with view of big fish in the sea and Sea Eagles around. We wanted to experience this boat ride but it was almost evening and we had to visit the Alibag fort. So we moved back to Alibag fort after spending some time on the Port.

We reached Alibag fort in evening at around 6 pm.  It was getting little darker and also as told by our friend it was a high tide time, but we had some time to visit the fort and come back.

We visited fort and were back in around 1 hour. The weather was getting bad so we had to return back to our home. And soon it started pouring so heavily that i barely could manage to drive. The rains were heavy with thunderstorm. We were driving with slow pace and managed to reach at around 9.00 pm.  So that seemed to be the final sunset of our journey. Next day we were suppose to travel back to Pune.
We had a lovely dinner at home and spend some time sharing our experience of journey.  This was last night of our journey.
